omega gods: omega gods 2012

Here is the band that asks the question, "What if the world ends in 2012?" omega gods 2012 was slated for release in 2012, but then, omega gods collected their minds and decided to realize their profits now.

Note: I'm not sure that the depiction is not Egyptian rather than Mayan, but who really cares when you're playing horseshoes with hand grenades?

The Kübler-Ross Conspiracy: Eyes

The Kübler-Ross Conspiracy was an American indie rock band formed by singer, guitarist and songwriter Jason Trojan in the early 1990s. The band was noted for its experimental sound, obscure lyrics, and eclectic instrumentation. Trojan took the band's name from a popular book about death and grieving.

Trojan's first release as The Kübler-Ross Conspiracy was the 1994 EP Mouth, a short collection of tracks featuring Trojan and several uncredited studio musicians. On the band's full-length debut album Ears, which followed shortly thereafter, Trojan was joined by Dwayne Hancock who contributed production and instrumentation. The Kübler-Ross Conspiracy released Eyes in 1998, which became their most well-known and critically acclaimed album. Although the album did not meet commercial success at the time of release, it has gone on to sell over 300,000 copies and is often ranked as one of the greatest albums of the 1990s indie genre.

Despite growing popularity, the group disbanded in 1999 after Trojan became disenchanted with touring and the music press, later having a nervous breakdown and then diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Trip-Hop/Nu-Jazz/IDM | MP3 | CBR 224 kbps | 64:00 | 94 MB

Abducted by Aliens is very much a crossover band, both in geographical and artistic terms. The band has three Danish members, plus a Japanese DJ and an English MC, who together create ethereal and filmic music which elegantly interweaves elements from hip hop, electronica, jazz and classical music. They seem to fit in equally well in a hip club in Tokyo or on a stage at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. With this in mind, it doesn't seem inappropriate when the group describes itself as a skateboard seeking out open spaces and the edges of urban culture.

talon sky: jacks and aces

Featuring the number one smash hit of all time, "the night I borrowed my daddy's fifth and his fourth wife," jacks and aces is jam packed with tales of debauchery and near incest.

If you like, "the night I borrowed my daddy's fifth and his fourth wife," you'll love "moon roof for my pick-up" and "shuffle my knuckles."

But there's more, much more, included here. There's "poker stud" and "mother chrome" and the tune Hot Rod magazine called "bad ass," "three mile peel-out."

Don Grimes says, "Check it out."

watermelon sugar

Another band that took its name from a Richard Brautigan novel, Watermelon Sugar is not the same as Trout Fishing in America. However, Watermelon Sugar may regroup as Willard and His Bowling Trophies later next year.

Please note that Watermelon Sugar lead singer Kilgore Trout did not take his name from a Richard Brautigan character and that the last novel band he was a member of, namely, Ironweed, is not a Kurt Vonnegut novel.

Montana radio station KLBZ, better know as Kill Buzz, is offering four free tickets to the next Watermelon Sugar concert (if you can call it a concert) to the first caller who can correctly answer the question, "What Richard Brautigan work did Watermelon Sugar bass player Tokyo Montana use as the basis for her name?"

Country Living: New Adventures in Exotic Pet Ownership

Country Living was a cowpunk band who formed in Garden Grove, California in November 1982. The band enjoyed a strong cult following throughout the 1980s and early 1990s before the tragic spelunking death of lead singer and guitar player Slim Jim Dakota in 1993. Their music has been described as an combination of cowpunk, jangle pop, garage rock, Texas swing and rockabilly.

The band's 1987 album New Adventures in Exotic Pet Ownership is considered a classic in the cowpunk genre. It was named one of the top albums of the 1980s by MTV.com and was used as the soundtrack of the Oscar nominated documentary Slim Chances, which chronicles the life and death of Slim Jim Dakota and his girlfriend, dancer Josie Wolly.

Sad Sad Babies: Hey du

Sad Sad Babies is a German krautrock band formed in 1972 as The Groovin' Babies by Hans Klausner (drums) and Berthold Ebersbacher (bass) and later joined by Didi Osterhagen (guitar). In time for their Eurovision debut in 1974, Spit Wannemaker replaced Osterhagen to solidify the classic Sad Sad Babies line up.

Sad Sad Babies were related to the free jazz music scene, both through their work with transexual French pianist Dorothea and through Klausner, who had already won several international jazz competions. The band was also influenced by rock artists, such as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, 13th Floor Elevators and early Pink Floyd.

The band's 25th studio album, Hey du, was released in 2009. The album cover saw the return of the Kewpie doll motif that was used on the band's first ten albums. The band is often remembered for the tragic accident at a 1982 Munich concert that killed three audience members. A 15-foot tall Kewpie doll balloon was accidentally filled with hydrogen gas and it exploded violently during a pyrotechnic display. Bass player Ebersbacher was also seriously injured in the explosion.

earth soldiers at the kitchen table: fresh bait

from "The Great Fish Hunt"

I got a clutch of worms
In my net
Because birds are like fish
At breakfast.

Then I set a trap for the sky.

And I read a book on how to hunt bear
While baiting my hook with beads
Of carmel and toffee
But not because water is like air,

But because dinner's not next.

Dubious Intentions: School's Out

West Ward's a city
East Ward's a town
North Ward's nothin' but a hole in the ground!

Singer and songwriter Jeff Dixon explained in a recent interview with SPIN that the song North Ward on his band Dubious Intentions' latest album, School's Out, was inspired by a real childhood experience:

"I grew up in a little town in Nebraska and we had three elementary schools, West Ward, East Ward and North Ward. Don't ask me why there wasn't a South Ward, nobody ever seemed to know the answer to that one. Anyway, us kids at West Ward used to sing this little song about the other two schools. West Ward was a city. East Ward was a town. And North Ward was nothin' but a hole in the ground. All three schools were exactly alike. All two-story brick buildings, ugly as hell. I guess it was a stupid cross-town rivalry thing.

"Well, one summer North Ward burned down. I mean it totally burned and nothing was left but a big black hole in the ground. All of us kids felt guilty, like our little song made it happen. The kids from North Ward had to be split up and some of them came to our school. Man, we could barely look those kids in the eye. That's what the song is about. Be careful what you f**kin' wish for."

Rip Bjorn: Party Nekkid! (1967)

One of the least successful novelty records of the late 1960s was the U.S. release of Swedish comedian Rip Bjorn's Party Nekkid! While Bjorn was a major star in Northern Europe, the more prudish Americans did not react favorably to the young performer, whose material dealt with subjects like sexual freedom and nudity.

In 1966, Bjorn's single Oh, Lutefisk was a hit novelty song on American radio. It was an innocuous song about an ethnic fish dish. The single led to a recording contract and Party Nekkid! was released in early 1967. Bjorn appeared to be nude on the cover of the album, with a white guitar over his genitals. In reality, he was wearing a flesh-colored bathing suit.

However, the album was considered too racy for display in most U.S. retail stores. In New Jersey, an entire shipment of the albums was seized by state police as obscene material. The album sold fewer than 500 copies and was soon removed from distribution.

Bjorn returned to his native Sweden and became the host of a successful television show that ran for 35 years. He retired from show business in 2005 and now writes childrens' books.

Scoville Units: Code Watchers (Deluxe Edition)

Scoville Units is an American alternative rock band founded by singer and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Asholt. The band took their name from the unit of measure of the Scoville Scale, which measures the hotness or piquancy of a chili pepper. The name is believed to be a tribute to the band Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Fairfax District neighborhood of Los Angleles, California where Asholt grew up.

Scoville Units' debut album, Code Watchers, was a modest college radio success. In 2007, while touring Europe with OneRepublic shortly after the album's release, Asholt overdosed on a combination of Vicks NyQuil, valium, Grey Goose, and heroin in a London hotel room. He was unconscious and with his legs pinned beneath him for 18 hours, which caused a tragic lack of circulation. Even though Asholt lost both legs, he recovered quickly and returned to the stage in a wheelchair in less than six months.

In 2008, Asholt drew media attention when he received three speeding tickets in the Mazarati sports car that he had customized to be driven without legs. Law enforcement officials in Hollywood reported that Asholt had been traveling at more than 120 miles per hour in a school zone. Coincidentally, a track on the Code Watchers album was titled Speeding to My Death. The publicity for the arrest resulted in record-breaking sales of the song on iTunes and Scoville Units' first top 10 hit.

In early 2009, a deluxe edition of Code Watchers with five additonal tracks was released. The album was given a new cover that features a QR code with Asholt's face superimposed on it. A new album that is as of yet untitled is scheduled for release in June 2010.

Mao Apology & The Committee

What happens when a girl from Sh
eboygan and some boys from Walla Walla get together? Well Mao Apology & The Committee seems to be the answer. After a long line of DYI ep’s, Mao and her cohorts signed with the Canadian label Indistincte Gestes to give us their first self titled release. Staying true to their earlier recordings, their sound remains lo-fi with intoxicating guitar distortion and smart lyrics that are never clever.
A must have.

Martian Holiday: S/T

Martian Holiday is a Chicago-based American indie rock band, formed in 2008 and signed to SuperSized Recordings. The band members include: Walter Cartwright, lead vocals and guitar; Omar Kahlil, keyboards, guitar, and backing vocals; Tom Christianson, drums and percussion; and Chachi Charles, bass guitar and backing vocals.

The band's name is derived from the film Christmas on Mars by psychedelic rock band the Flaming Lips. The band first gained attention via a variety of blogs, such as Stereogum. The members claim to be influenced by both 1960s psychedelic rock and Middle Eastern classical music, describing their genre of music as Bucktown Freak.

The members of the band met as students in the Department of Music at Chicago University where they studied ethnomusicology and composition; after graduation they self-produced their first album while concurrently working full-time jobs. The self-titled album met with immediate critical acclaim.

In 2009, Martian Holiday's song Terrible Terrorist was ranked 42th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of the year. In November 2009, they toured the United Kingdom with Kylie Minogue. They were declared "The Year's Best New Band" by Spin magazine in the March 2010 issue.

The band is also known for their unusually minimalist album cover art. The cover for Martian Holiday featured a Polaroid snapshot that lead singer Cartwright found in a family photo album. Cartwright revealed in a Rolling Stone interview that the people in the snapshot are his mother and her twin brother. The band's sophomore album Green Again is scheduled to be released in June 2010. The band's website was recently replaced with a single image that is believed to be the official album cover.

California Nightmare: Our Lives In Cliffs Notes

California Nightmare was a British folk rock band with traditional influences. The original band was active in the late 1960s and early 1970s and a later version during the late 1980s until the early 2000s. The band was known for songs with controversial lyrics that often resulted in their music being banned from radio play.

The original line-up, which was unchanged throughout the band's first incarnation (1967–1973), was: Marcy Woodcock, vocals; Albert Gross, guitar; Benny Coates, guitar; Allistair Bean, double bass; and Kuwana Mutabi, drums. A new group featuring Woodcock, Coates, Bean and two uncredited musicians was formed in 1987. In 1998, Woodcock quit the band and was replaced by Eurovision finalist Ellen Caan.

The name California Nightmare was chosen by the band as a swipe at American folk rock group The Mamas & the Papas, who recorded the hit song California Dreamin' in 1965. The band felt that the pop sound of the American group was not authentic and worthy of derision. However, California Nightmare never achieved the success of the group they ridiculed.

In 2007, the original members of the band were reunited to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and to record a short concert that was broadcast on BBC radio. In June 2008, the band, comprising all five original members, embarked on a twelve date UK tour. Tragically, their small plane crashed on approach to Gatwick Airport and all aboard were killed.

In 2009, Our Lives In Cliffs Notes, a box set of California Nightmare's recordings from 1967 to 1998, was released. Recordings featuring the vocals of Ellen Caan were not included in the collection. This was controversial due to the fact that Cliffs Notes, the only one of the band's songs to chart in the United States, was originally recorded by Caan in 1999.

My favorite album cover of all time: Buffalo Springfield: Last Time Around. Love's Forever Changes was also a cool design with that psychedelic collage.

On the fringes of a centreless modernity

Scars on the Archive burst on to the Chicago art/medical scene in 2009 after migrating with extreme abstraction from the wild coastal sedgeland outside Hobart, Tasmania.

"Scars" are an urgent exhaustion statement system who eschew silence and noise dialectics in the name of total being immersion. Their tonal range is narrow and tight and instruments are seldom used in orthodox or counter-revolutionary ways. The group is led by the coherent chief of paradise alley. It is followed by scalpels and guerney violence contersinks. The medical link is faulty and needs ingemination.
