Alistair Wilde: Ka

Alistair Wilde (born June 21, 1953) is an English-born musician and artist best known as a founding member and the principal songwriter of the American new wave band Roving Spleens, which was active between 1976 and 1990. Since then, Wilde has released his own solo projects and worked in a variety of media, including film, photography, opera, and Internet-based projects. He has received Grammy, Oscar, and Golden Globe awards for his achievements. As a member of Roving Spleens, Wilde is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Ka is the first joint effort between Wilde and his third wife, experimental New York City musician Golda Silverberg. It was never made clear whether or not "Ka" was simply the name of the album or the name of the collaboration between Wilde and Silverberg. The couple worked on creating a blend of electronic and early African-American Gospel music throughout 2007 and early 2008. Unfortunately, Wilde's record label was reluctant to release the album, stating that it lacked commercial viability. Ka was finally released in early 2009 to mixed reviews.

The single Crazy Rhetoric was released free online to promote the album. The song features a bizarre spoken word performance by Silverberg and the recorded sound of a lamb being slaughtered. Wilde and Goldberg toured, performing songs from both the album and from the couple's other numerous collaborations from late 2009 to early 2010.

The Paul Feyerabend Tribute Band: Lieutenant

pedaling to nirvana

I like my tank commander cap
on my head, it's a hat
I served in the bicycle corps
studied process, married and
divorced, for life, no better,
no worse, and with or without
science, progress in doubt,
and I doubt the bullet I took
means much to the saviors
of Europe, I doubt there's much
method to these undertakings
just read my book

Cellular: Heaven's Ceiling

Cellular is a British band formed in London in 2001 by fraternal twin brothers Myron and Byron Willy. Initially inspired by the New Romantic genre of the 1980s, their music features a mixture of funk, jazz, soul and synthpop. They are quickly becoming one of the most successful bands in the U.K., achieving three Top Ten singles and a Top Ten album there between 2003 and 2009. The band split briefly in 2006 due to a dispute between the Willy twins (Myron's wife left him for Byron) but they soon announced a reunion in March 2007, just in time to tour the U.S. with pop band Gossip.

Cellular's 2005 album Heaven's Ceiling is their most successful to date. Their third studio album, it topped the charts all around the world and launched several international hit singles, such as Golden Jaws and the title track which reached number one in several countries, including the United States.

wailers of despair: ugh

Following their less than stellar album, psycho-babble, the wailers of depair have come back strong with ugh.

For lovers of the raw, the wailers of depair offer two entries in the scream category, "scream as loud as you can" and "scream and shriek."

On the one hand, "scream and shriek" is a parody of "Twist and Shout." It comes off as a twisted re-mix with rabid alternations of screams and shrieks.

On the other hand, "scream as loud as you can" is a rev-up from the stadium floor to the nose-bleed section of ever-increasing, ear-piercing vocal bursts.

But there's also a controversy brewing.

the wailers of depair have a technique known as over-echo stylings, a technique karaoke over-singers should be familiar with.

While this technique itself should not be much cause for controversy, the wailers of depair have backgrounded their vocals with the wailing, weeping, and gnashing of teeth recorded at actual catastrophes.

Imagine your crying and sobbing at the news that your baby has died caught on tape. Imagine that recording being used by the wailers of depair to create their own vocal stylings as an echo of your despair.

While the "psych ward wailings" series produced some reaction a few albums back, "dead baby," "lost fiance, "lost fiancee" and the like on ugh have fans excitd and critics riled up.

But there's more controversy brewing as the wailers of depair have now taken on "caterwauling."

Check it out for yourselves. Have the Tylenol ready.

Doornail Assassins: Hate Truck

Doornail Assassins are an American hardcore punk band, formed in San Francisco, California in 1979. Pioneers of hardcore during the 1980s, the band gained a large underground following during in the height of the international punk music era.

Their music mixed the more experimental elements of British 1970s punk with the raw energy of 1980s California hardcore punk. Doornail Assassins' songs mixed deliberately shocking lyrics with satirical and sarcastic criticism of social and political issues of the Reagan era.

The band released five studio albums before officially disbanding in 1986. In 1997, the band reformed without original singer Joe "Pudding" Angola, who had been in a legal dispute with the other members over royalties. Angola has since gone on to be a spoken word performer and political activist. In 2009, the band released the album Hate Truck. While not a sales success, the album has been hailed as a classic of the neo-punk genre and a return to the band's biting social commentary.

The album cover features a photograph of a truck covered with religious signs that condemn homosexuality. The title track was often played in California during rallies against Proposition 8, the initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage in the state.

onyx: chiller

Onyx Chiller did it again: picking up fonts from every printed medium they could lay their hands on, feeding their sound robot with them, and gathering the unexpected tunes it spilled in return: elephant boogies, time chants, bookshelf chorales. plug them in, swing that bell, and chill.

Cowboy Cody: That Lil' Ol' Shack Out Back and 10 More Songs About Outhouses

Cody Wayne Wyler, Jr. (born December 25, 1928), known professionally as Cowboy Cody, is an American country music singer and songwriter known for his unique yodeling abilities. He has sold in excess of 50 million albums and although now retired from the spotlight, he remains a true legend and pioneer of the Country and Western music genre. During his seven decades in the music business, Cowboy Cody was known for his rough, authenic cowboy appearance and somewhat off-color lyrics.

His 1949 hit single Cowboys Don't Eat Beans By the Campfire held the record for the longest at number one on the U.K. charts until Willie Nelson broke the record in 1992. In the U.S., his versions of That Lil' Ol' Shack Out Back (1952) and Sears Catalog Blues (1953) both reached number two on the Billboard country chart. Cowboy Cody had a string of minor hits from the mid 1960s into the late 1970s, and became known to a new generation of fans through TV marketing in the 1980s. His 1987 compilation album That Lil' Ol' Shack Out Back and 10 More Songs About Outhouses went quadruple platinum and is still a top seller through mail order catalogs.
