My Name is Victoria Winters - S/T

Assigning a musical genre to My Name is Victoria Winters is extremely difficult. The Australian band has a style that is eclectic to say the least. However, their early work from 1987 to 1990 can be considered a mix between post-punk and goth rock. In their later work, starting with The Collins Family Incesters, the band was inspired by ancient music from around the world, with lead singer Barnabas XY performing in a unique nonlingual style that drew from Jazz scat and glossolalia (speaking in tongues) with at times operatic phrasing, giving it a very distinctive sound. As a result, the band's later albums sound quite different from the first three.

The album artwork of their self-titled first album, which depicts a creepy graveyard, provides a hint at the meaning of the name My Name is Victoria Winters. However, many who are fans of 1960s daytime TV series Dark Shadows immediately recognize the name as the first line spoken by the female narrator at the start of each episode.
